Inital Procreate Impressions

iPad 9.7" 2018 As I've been in a Limbo state between moving house I've not had access to a computer on weekdays which was making extra-curricular creative activities pretty difficult. I carry sketchbooks with me regularly for taking notes at work and sketching rough concepts but the Ipad has become a handy-dandy way to work on more long term art for instagram and personal development.

So far my main app for drawing has been procreate, I've not really played around much with brushes yet as I'd rather get a solid understanding of the default brushes and tools before I go too wild. The above image was the first finished piece I created - I limited myself to the HB pencil, a blender brush and a single brick red. As someone who is fairly confident in traditional mediums using the procreate brushes came pretty naturally. The added function of holding the Apple Pencil at an angle to create wider strokes for shading made the process feel really natural. Compared to previous experience with the Surface Pro 3 the iPad seemed much more seamless. Along with this the processing power of the iPad is unbelievable, I have a 9.7" 2018 iPad. Initially I was worried about the amount of RAM on this model and was concerned that it would have cursor drag (something I experienced a lot of with my surface as it got older) but either the procreate app or the apple product itself is filled with some sort of voodoo magic which not only allows me to draw for hours on end with no lag, but also allows to export amazing time-lapses for social channels.

I'm hoping to mirror any art from my social channels on this site and write more about the process and any noteworthy techniques, but this first post is more of a first impressions of the tech. As for now if you have additional income and travel a lot I would recommend this set-up but by no means is it a replacement for my desktop. Keep your eyes peeled for more artworks.
